Fully Awake Newborn Care Specialist needed in March 2027

​

Young family of three, soon to be four, in   Manhasset, New York   is seeking an experienced   Newborn Care Specialist   who is warm, supportive, understanding, and respectful of the parents’ beliefs and parenting style. The ideal candidate is   nonjudgmental, flexible, and able to work collaboratively with the parents   to provide personalized care for their newborn.

The family is willing to   compensate generously for fully awake care   and is looking for someone who will remain attentive and actively engaged throughout the shift. This position would ideally be 3-4 months and the NCS would be compensated about $60.00 per hour . 

Responsibilities:  

• Infant Care: Changing diapers and clothing as needed (diapers should be changed as soiled and at the beginning of each wake window before a feed) 
  • bathing (schedules should be confirmed with mom) 
• Must be proficient in swaddling, soothing, and tending to all infant needs. Must be familiar with Happiest Baby and pediatrician Dr. Harvey Karp - The 5 S's Method :
  • Created by Dr. Harvey Karp, this approach mimics the sensory environment of the womb to activate a baby's calming reflex:  

1. Swaddle: Wrap the baby snugly to recreate the tight embrace of the womb.
2. Side/Stomach position: Hold the baby on their side or stomach while soothing (always place on the back for actual sleep).
3. Shush: Use loud white noise to match the rushing sounds of blood flow inside the womb
4. Swing: Provide rhythmic, gentle rocking or motion.
5. Suck: Offer a pacifier or breast  

• Feeding Support: Assisting with breastfeeding routines, bottles, and sterilizing bottles and pump parts.
  • Feeding Style: we are a breastfeeding family. Must be proficient and supportive of breastfeeding families. We plan to exclusively breast feed for the first 6 weeks (no bottles or pacifiers) 
  • Feed on demand: Nurse your baby whenever they show hunger cues, day and night (8 to 12 times every 24 hours).
  • Help assist in pumping schedules, storing, freezing, accurately labeling milk, and washing/sanitizing all pump parts and materials
• Sleep Conditioning: Establishing healthy, age-appropriate sleep habits and schedules.
  • We do not sleep train, but we plan to use the Snoo/ Cradlewise – must be proficient or willing to learn these tools  
  • The baby will sleep in our bedroom, that is a nonnegotiable and not up for discussion. Must be comfortable entering our bedroom  
• Parent Education: Guiding families on newborn behaviors, soothing techniques, and developmental milestones.
  • We value The Sears Baby Book  
• Record Keeping: Logging daily tracking data for feeds, wet/dirty diapers, and sleep patterns.
  • Must be tech savvy and able to use the Huckleberry app for baby daily tracking  
• Nursery Maintenance: Handling baby-related laundry and keeping the nursery organized.
  • Most laundry to be maintained by daily housekeeper but please keep things organized, assist in baby stains as needed on soiled onesies, burp cloths, sheets, swaddles, and etc.  

Qualifications and Expectations:

• Experience: Minimum 3 years or 3,000+ hours of dedicated newborn care experience in private homes
• Up to Date Certifications
  • Specialized training or certification from an accredited program (such as Newborn Care Solutions).
  • Current Infant and Child CPR and First Aid certification.
• Collaborative to work with domestic staff and team player
• Energetic
• Solution Oriented – suggests new solutions when something isn’t working  
• Discreet and calm demeanor
• English speaking
